Doek Festival, Nederland’s international festival for improvisation, takes place between 1 and 5 May 2013 in various venues in Amsterdam, from the renowned Bimhuis to underground favourites like OT301 and the Vondelbunker. The range of music is just as broad. Ingenious arrangements and inventive improvisations; intimate duos and exuberant big bands; explosive noise and contemplative chamber jazz; crackling electronics and melodious brass lines – the 11th doek festival reveals just how diverse, exciting and fresh today’s improvised music sounds.
